That said, I was intrigued by your reference to Revathy at the start !!!
Girish Menonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08198191470897961304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-550878305275660328.post-55579719884114039242013-06-17T00:31:20.265+05:302013-06-17T00:31:20.265+05:30Visiting after a looong while, and ruing what I ha...Visiting after a looong while, and ruing what I have missed out on. You should seriously take up writing professionally (or are you doing it already?). Great read. I am sure you will consider the following points -

1: Right is a right and not subjected to actual practicing of the same. We as Indians have fundamental right to movement - how many of us actually move ( just about 3 to 5%). I think rights should not be mixed with so called duties.

2: In India adult franchise fell on our lap without any struggle or even demand for it- western countries have different history. Still in India we have higher percentage of voting as compared to many so called more civilized democracies.

3: Why sh voting be the 'real' expression of participation and a proxy for being so called 'Responsible citizen'.

4: Try to analyse the act of voting- the achievements ( theoretical) of voting

5: Is voting the only way to dispense one's responsible citizenship? There are so many other forms that influences various processes that impacts our life.

Pravin Mahajan

Many thanks Pravin! As always, cutting arguments!

I think on point 1 Morris Jones says the same by examining the extent to which a right is a duty?'

I agree completely with points 2, 3 and 5. Can you point me to any reading that gives an Indian perspective on these issues?

I don't understand point 4.

With best wishes,
Chau
Ajit Chaudhurihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02375314355362644733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-550878305275660328.post-23455942115109789312013-04-04T16:25:48.673+05:302013-04-04T16:25:48.673+05:30I loved this piece.

Crib for cot, and crib for plagiarism - yes; but not in my memory for grumble. Then I checked OED and see that it appears as Brit/Indian word for "grumble". We must have left it with you in 1947?

Sir Tim LankesterAjit Chaudhurihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02375314355362644733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-550878305275660328.post-3458275902679469052013-04-04T16:19:45.724+05:302013-04-04T16:19:45.724+05:30Ohmigod - who are you who has kidnapped my clueles...Ohmigod - who are you who has kidnapped my clueless pal and substituted a body and brain double in his place - two good articles in a row and no sex in the second one (Revathi does not qualify) and still good reading AND logical well reasoned out conclusions - - whats next in line - snowfall in chennai - gawd help us all -this is the true end of the world.

R. I am in complete agreement with you...Thanks Ajit!

I am in complete agreement with you that everyone has a responsibility to help in building the society and country we want to live in.
